Health and Beauty: Free Radical – A rebel molecule

A free Radical (or, free Radicals) can be in the cause of more than sixty human diseases….

Through out history man has looked for, (as did Ponce De Leon did) the fountain of youth. We are constantly hearing in the advertisements about yet another discovery of a miracle pill that will turn back the aging clock.

Health and Beauty: Free Radical - A rebel molecule

If all these promises were true we all would possibly be children again.

Logical speaking it took years of unknowingly abuse on our bodies to get where we are today. If we expect to turn it around in one week we need a miracle, and God might grant that for you. But for the rest of us we need some help in this area of how to start the turning back of, and maybe slow down of the aging clock.

Our decisions of today brings the circumstances of tomorrow.

The media has taught us how to eat foods without nutrition in excess and then use antacids.

When we get sick there is a pill for everything under the sun, a pill to make you sleep, a pill to get you started, a pill to speed you up, a pill to slow you down, a pill for this or that, you choose. Later you have to take another pill for the side effects of the first pill. Where do we get off?

Looking for something that will stop the radical decline in our lives can be confusing to say the least, but I want to tell you there is hope in this area for us.

Looking to what can be working in the cause of more than sixty human diseases which include:

  • Cancer
  • Heart Disease
  • Immune System Decline

is a by product of our daily body function.

A process called Oxidation.

Oxidation is a process in which a molecule in our body has only one electron but needs two. The electron (free radical) doesn’t have a partner electron so it looks for an electron from a healthy molecule. Upon finding a electron from a healthy molecule this free radical steals one electron from the healthy molecule which in turn makes the healthy molecule a free radical and causes the destruction process of disease and aging.

This oxidation, although it is a part of our life is not a bad thing when it is kept in balance. Just as a greasy “French fry” every once in a while is not bad, but when you take it to an extreme it produces an undesirable end result.

Thanks to Big Food, and Big Chemical Companies, we have lost the balance of the oxidation in our bodies.

In order to help turn this around we need to first of all (as I state in nearly every article) we need to eat the right foods, get some type of exercise, and have some knowledge of a few antioxidants.

Now antioxidants are what fights against free radicals that causes a lot of our problems. I’ll give you a few things that will help you in your fight against old man time.

The major antioxidants are:

* vitamin A taken in Beta Carotene form. I would take 25,000 I.U. daily.

*Vitamin C : I would use 2,000 mg. a day to start with.

* Vitamin E I would use 400-800 I.U. a day.

* Selenium: I use anywhere from 50-200 mcg daily.

* Co-Q-10: I would use 100-400 mg a day.

* Alpha Lipoic Acid : I would use 50- 250 a day.

* Pyenogenol: I would use 60-90 mg a day

* Nonie – Mangosteen – Acai – Pomegranate – juices

Using these antioxidants daily will not bring you a quick fix, sometimes it may take months before seeing any results, but the scientific data is there. So start to day on the rebuilding of the body, you’ll be glad you did.

Some Foods That Help

Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (ORAC uints) is a way of rating the antioxidant power of foods.

Some of the top scoring foods that are high in ORAC uints and help in countering oxidants are:

  • Kale
  • spinach
  • strawberries
  • raspberries
  • plums
  • broccoli
  • alfalfa sprouts.

We should consume at least 3,500 ORAC uints a day, but 5,000 to 6,000 a day will give more protection against ageing.

This all points to a pratice of eating at least “5” servings of fruits and vegetables a day.
