What is my face shape?
I hear so many beauticians talking about the importance of face shape, but what is it and what shape am I? The shape of your face can influence many things, such as choosing eyeglasses, makeup and hairstyles. Below you will find that I have described each of the different types of face shapes. Now you can finally know what shape your face is! I would recommend pulling your hair up into a ponytail, or securing with a headband, and then look into a mirror and trace the outline of your face in soap on the mirror. This should give you a good starting point in determining what shape your face is. The descriptions below will also help you in this determination.
Oval – If you face shape is oval, your forehead will be wider than your chin. The length will be equal to approximately one and a half times the width. You will also have prominent cheekbones, and your face gracefully tapers to a narrow oval chin. It is common for those with classic oval faces to have small features. Some celebrities that have an oval face include Sarah Michelle Gellar and Britney Spears.
Round – If you have a round face, it will be almost as wide as it is long. The face will be widest at the cheeks. Kate Hudson, Drew Barrymore and Christina Ricci all have a round face shape.
Long – If you face is long, your forehead, cheekbones and jaw line will all be about the same width. Those will longs faces tend to have a prominent chin, and their face will have an elongated appearance. Overall, the face will be longer than it is wide. Some of those with a long face shape include Lisa Kudrow and Sarah Jessica Parker.
Square – As like the long face, the forehead, cheekbones and jaw line will be about the same width. A squared jaw line is the most obvious feature of a square shaped face. Sandra Bullock, Janet Jackson and Jackie Kennedy Onassis all have square shaped faces.
Heart – A heart shaped face is very similar to an oval shaped, but the chin will taper to a point. It will be narrow at the jaw line, and wide at the forehead and cheekbones. Some celebrities that have this face shape include Reese Witherspoon, Cameron Diaz, Faith Hill and Heather Graham.
Diamond – A diamond shaped face is not as common as the other shapes. The face will typically be highly angular, and the forehead will be somewhat short. A diamond shaped face will also have wide cheeks, and a narrow jaw line. Many people with the diamond shaped face will also have a pointed chin. The face will be widest at the temples. Madonna has a diamond shaped face.
Triangular – A triangular face will have a wider forehead that narrows gradually to a slightly pointed or rounded chin. Liz Hurley and Amber Valletta have triangular shaped faces.
Pear – A pear shape face is characterized by a wide chin and a narrow forehead. Halle Berry and Bette Midler have pear shaped faces.
Here is another way to determine the shape of your face. First and foremost, take out your measuring tape. Then take the following measurements and jot them down onto a piece of paper:
- Measure your face across the top of your cheekbones.
- Measure across your jaw line from the widest points.
- Measure across your forehead at the widest point.
- Measure the tip of your headline to the bottom of your chin.
Compare these dimensions to the descriptions above.
